DETROIT (WWJ) Michigan State Police said a suspect in a felonious assault was injured in a rollover crash.
The crash happened at 8:40 a.m. Saturday on eastbound I-94 at Rosa Parks. State Police said the suspect was committing the assault with a pistol prior to the crash. Troopers combed the crash scene for the weapon while paramedics rushed the suspect to the hospital with a broken orbital bone.
En route, the suspect escaped the paramedics.
Troopers ran after him and chased him up an embankment, police said.
They took him into custody and to Henry Ford Hospital. When he arrived, a search of his person revealed a loaded pistol.
The details of the assault have not been released, including who the victim was, how he or she was related to the suspect and his or her condition.
Troopers will be submitting a packet to the Wayne County Prosecutor to review charges.
