DETROIT (WWJ) A 58-year-old man died in a wrong way crash with a DDOT bus on The Lodge.

In a statement on X, Michigan State Police Second District said the Detroit Regional Communication Center received multiple calls of a wrong way driver on Saturday, December 7th, around 4:40 a.m.

Metro Detroit troopers attempted to find the driver—and were told the Ram pickup had hit the bus head-on.

According to MSP; the Ram pickup burst into flames upon impact. Troopers could not rescue the driver. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has not yet been notified.

The driver of the DDOT bus was rushed to the hospital for "what appear to be" non-life-threatening injuries, MSP said.

"At this time, it hasn't been determined where the wrong way driver entered the freeway and why he was going that way," First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said.

The victim's name has not been released.

This is the second time in less than two weeks a driver died in a wrong way crash on the Lodge. On the Friday after Thanksgiving; the non-at-fault driver—a 34-year-old Detroit man—was killed when a wrong way driver crashed into a SUV near Grand River. The 27-year-old woman who caused the crash was left in critical condition, MSP said.

The investigation is ongoing.
