DETROIT (WWJ) A Detroit man died in a wrong way crash on the Lodge.
In a statement on X, Michigan State Police Second District said the Detroit Regional Communication Center (DRCC) received multiple calls of a wrong way Jeep SUV driving north in the southbound lanes of the Lodge on Friday, November 29th, around 4:30 a.m.
A short time later, DRCC learned of a crash on the Lodge near Grand River. When troopers arrived; they found the Jeep and a second SUV with heavy front end damage sustained in the head-on crash. The non-at-fault SUV was fully engulfed in flames. Troopers were unable to get into the SUV despite their attempts, State Police said.
Troopers entered the Jeep and removed the at-fault driver, 27, from the vehicle. She was rushed to the hospital where she remains in critical condition as of Saturday morning.
The Detroit Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the flames. One person was found inside the non-at-fault vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
About 12 hours later, investigators were able to identify him as a 34-year-old Detroit man. State Police say they have notified his family. His name was not released.
It’s “unknown” if impairment was a factor, State Police said.
