Man faces up to 15 years in prison for fatal hit-and-run crash in Madison Heights

MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) A man faces up to 15 years in prison for a fatal hit-and-run crash in Madison Heights.

Madison Heights Police said they were dispatched to a hit-and-run on Wednesday, January 29th, around 4:53 p.m.—on southbound Dequindre north of 11 Mile.

Officers found Sammie Baker, 67 of Detroit, who was struck by a gold Toyota that fled southbound. Investigation revealed Baker was waiting for the bus when the car drove up onto the curb and struck him, police said.

Baker died from his injuries at Corewell Health/Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital.

According to police; detectives arrested Jamal Salim Safah, 30, in his gold Toyota in Detroit.

Safah was arraigned Saturday (February 1st) on One Count of Leaving The Scene of At-Fault Accident Resulting in Death, a 15-year felony. He was given a $10,000 bond.
