(WWJ) A man accused of stealing an ambulance and then crashing it in Oakland County Friday afternoon is facing several felony charges.
Authorities say 33-year-old Changlin Li is charged with carjacking, carrying a concealed weapon, fleeing and eluding, as well as attempting to disarm and resisting a police officer.
According to investigators, Medstar ambulance responded to a crash at Novi Rd. and 10 Mile Rd., just after 5 p.m. on Oct. 24.
Paramedics had just placed an injured driver in the back of the rig when it's alleged that Li, who was the other driver involved in the initial crash, jumped into the driver's seat and sped off.
The ambulance crashed into another car at Beck Rd. and 8 Mile Rd. in Northville Township, where Li got out and started running.
The ambulance leaked fuel and caught fire, but officials said neither the patient or the paramedic — both in the back of the ambulance when it crashed — suffered life-threatening injuries.
Li was quickly taken into custody, and was arraigned on the charges in 52nd District Court on Saturday.
Li remains held on a $5 million bond as he awaits his next court appearance, a probable cause conference set for Nov. 5.
