STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) A barricaded gunman standoff that prompted the evacuation of Stellantis Assembly Plant in Sterling Heights came to a "peaceful" end, police said.

Sterling Heights Police told WWJ it started on Saturday, July 12, around 4 p.m. at the Stellantis Assembly Plant on Van Dyke near 16 Mile.

"We got a 911 call from the plant that there was a man inside, possibly hallucinating, and he was also armed," Captain Mario Bastianelli said in a live interview on WWJ.

According to Bastianelli, officers arrived "quickly" and evacuated the building. They secured the man inside an area in the middle of the building, he said.

He told WWJ over 30 officers responded to the scene, including a Special Response Team and a Crisis Negotiating Team. Within three hours, authorities "peacefully" took the suspect into custody.

No one was injured, according to police.

Police said the suspect may face criminal charges.

According to Bastianelli, they are "putting together the pieces" to determine what led to the suspect's actions.
