HARRISON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A man was killed after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing the road in his electric wheelchair.
Macomb County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to calls of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle in the area of Metropolitan Parkway and North Pointe Parkway in Harrison Township at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 12, authorities said.
Police said the victim was crossing Metro Parkway in an electric wheelchair when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 42-year-old Harper Woods woman. The driver remained on the scene.
Two nurses were administering CPR to the victim when police arrived. Police took over life-saving measures until the Harrison Township Fire Department arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead after arriving, authorities said.
The driver was taken into custody at the scene on suspicion of impairment, police said.
