
DETROIT (WWJ) -- One person is dead after a crash involving a mini motorbike and an SUV, Monday morning on Detroit's west side.
It happened at around 6 a.m. on Hubbell, in the area of I-96 and Grand River Ave, according to Detroit Police.
Police said preliminary information is that a man riding some kind of self-built minibike or moped was speeding on Hubble when he tried to pass a Dodge Durango. He didn't make it, and ended up crashing into the side of the SUV.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton reports the moped driver, described as a man in his 40s, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The road was closed to traffic, with police still on the scene later in the morning.
No other injuries were reported.
