WARREN (WWJ) — Four suspects are in custody after what a man thought was supposed to be a date with a woman he met on a dating app turned out to be a robbery that led to a police standoff in Warren early Monday morning.
Warren police officials tell WWJ it all unfolded shortly before 2 a.m. on Monday, March 3 when a man agreed to meet a woman in the area of 12 Mile and Van Dyke in Warren.
He told police the woman lured him to a vacant home near 12 Mile and Lund "under the pretense of a date arranged through a dating app."
The victim told police the woman told him to call when he got to the home. After meeting her at his car, she led him inside the vacant home and told him to wait in a bedroom while she used the bathroom, according to a press release from the Warren Police Department.
While he was waiting, two men came into the bedroom, pulled out guns and demanded his belongings, according to police.
The suspects allegedly assaulted the man with the gun and ran away. The victim was eventually able to climb out the bedroom window of the residence and contact 911, officials said.
Responding officers found a possible suspect vehicle parked nearby and saw suspects running into a home in the 29000 block of Lund.
Officers tried to talk to the suspects, but were unsuccessful, so the Warren Police Department’s Special Response Team was called to the scene in order to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the incident.
SRT personnel eventually forced their way into the home and arrested three men and a woman. Officers also found other evidence related to the case, officials said. The suspect’s names and ages were not immediately released.
Anyone who knows something about the alleged robbery is asked to call Det. C. Rexford at 586-574-4790.
Officials did not say what dating app the man was using.
