DETROIT (WWJ) Detroit Police said a dispute over a woman led to a shooting at a car wash on the city's west side.

Police said a scout car was patrolling on Grand River on Wednesday, May 7, around 10:50 a.m.

A person flagged the officer down to help a man with a gunshot wound. The officer rendered aid, police said.

According to police, further investigation revealed the victim was shot multiple times while sitting in his car at a car wash on Grand River (18,200 block) near the Southfield Freeway.

"A known suspect approached him," 8th Precinct Commander Dietrich Lever said. "There was a verbal dispute. There was a physical dispute. The suspect produced a weapon. He shot six times, striking the victim several times in the abdomen and striking himself in the hand once."

According to Lever; the suspect fled the location in a silver vehicle with black paneling. He eventually showed up at the hospital for treatment for his hand.

The victim was also hospitalized. His condition was not released.

Police said the motive was a dispute over a woman.

"I think it's very dangerous and it puts our community at risk as well," Lever said. "I think it shows a shortness of conflict resolution."
