DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- A Dearborn Heights man is in custody after he was shot by a police officer Monday morning.
While patrolling the 8600 block of Evangeline Street, south of Joy Road, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the Dearborn Heights Police Department said an officer noticed a car he believed to be involved in a fleeing and eluding incident in Dearborn Heights and Center Line.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the officer was initially unaware that the vehicle was occupied due to the window tint. While the officer was speaking with the suspect's family member, they noticed movement inside the car and then heard the engine start.
According to police, the driver reportedly revved the engine and drove toward the officer.
The officer fired two shots from his duty weapon into the vehicle, hitting the 27-year-old Dearborn Heights resident.
The suspect then drove off.
Police said the driver drove to a relative's home in Detroit where he was arrested.
The suspect suffered one grazing gunshot wound, but refused medical treatment.
The Michigan State Police are handling the investigation into the incident.
