
GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ) A man was stabbed at a Walmart near Grand Rapids less than one week after the mass stabbing of 11 people at a Traverse City location.
According to the Kent County Sheriff's Office; the suspect stabbed the victim, 23, multiple times. It happed on Friday, August 1, at approximately 9 p.m. at the store on Alpine Avenue in Alpine Township.
Authorities said the suspect, 29, ran out of the store and was struck by a vehicle. Good Samaritans attempted to apprehend him. Deputies arrived and took him into custody within "minutes," sheriff's officials said.
The victim was rushed to the hospital where he's listed in stable condition. The suspect had minor injuries from the vehicle hitting him.
Authorities did not release information on a motive, or the victim and the suspect's relationship, if any.
The suspect remains housed at the Kent County Jail awaiting charges.
Alpine Township is about five miles north of Grand Rapids.
This comes six days after a mass stabbing at a Traverse City-area Walmart. Bradford Gille, 42, is charged with one count of Terrorism and 11 counts of Attempted Murder. There was no known connection between him or any of the victims, who range in age from 29 to 84.
The Munson Medical Center-- the largest health system in northern Michigan where the injured were treated-- told WILX the victims are doing better. As of Thursday morning, they said six of the victims were in good condition. Two patients had been treated and transferred. Three had been treated and released.
