Manhunt underway for parole absconder who fled after shootout with officers in Lansing area: MSP

DELTA TWP. (WWJ) -- Multiple police agencies are searching Friday for a wanted man who was involved in a shootout with corrections officers Friday, in Eaton County.

According to Michigan State Police, shortly before 8 a.m., officers with the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) Absconder Recovery Unit spotted a parole absconder who was wanted on numerous felony warrants, including aggravated assault.

Officers followed the black Jeep Patriot the man was a passenger in from Lansing Township into Delta Township, where it's alleged he got out of the Jeep and started shooting at the MDOC vehicle.

The agents returned fire, and then suspect jumped back into the Jeep, which sped away.

The agents were not injured, police said, and it is not believed that the suspect was shot.

The MDOC agents followed the vehicle as it pulled into the Westland Center Plaza at Waverly Road and W. Saginaw Highway, where the suspect fled from the vehicle on foot, running eastbound from the shopping plaza. The suspect vehicle also fled the area.

The wanted man is identified as 31-year-old Marcus Gamba Oglesby, of Jackson, Michigan.

He is described as a Black male, 6'1'' tall and weighing 135 lbs., last seen wearing all black clothing.

Late Friday afternoon, the black Jeep was found by a home on Drexel Street in Lansing and police said they were working to determine whether the suspect could be inside. At of 5:30 p.m., MSP said a SWAT team had the house surrounded. After searching the home, police said they determined that Oglesby was not inside,

MSP said canine units were in the area, and that Eaton County Sheriff’s Department, Lansing Township Police Department and Lansing Police Department were all assisting in the search

Police stressed that Oglesby is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, do not approach him, and call 911.
