(WWJ) -- U.S. health experts are expected to soon recommend COVID-19 vaccine boosters for all Americans eight months after they have received their second dose of the shot.
Meanwhile, a Michigan-based grocery and retail chain is offering a third dose of the vaccine to those with weakened immune systems.
WWJ's Jim Matthews reports that Meijer is now joining Walgreens and CVS in making a COVID booster shot available to eligible patients.
Some of those who qualify include people with organ or stem cell transplants, cancer, primary immo-deficiency, some with HIV, and those being treated with immune-suppressive medicines.
Patients who are eligible can make an appointment by calling their local store or texting COVID to 7-5-0-4-9. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Meijer made the announcement as the number of new cases of the coronavirus continues to rise across Michigan.
On Monday, the state Health Department reported about 3,500 new cases and 19 deaths over the past three days, as the Delta variant spreads across the country.
The number of patients hospitalized and being treated for COVID-19 in Michigan is now over 900.
