Despite a rainy start to the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the weather will improve by Monday and may be perfect for parades and other events.
A rainy and cooler Saturday will give way to a few showers Sunday and sunshine on Monday, according to forecasters with AccuWeather and the National Weather Service.
"It does look like tomorrow will be a little bit better, although there will be a couple showers rolling through the afternoon, Memorial Day looks like the best day of the holiday weekend," AccuWeather's John Feerick told WWJ's Pat Vitale Saturday morning.
Rainfall totals for Saturday could be between 1 and 1.5 inches in Metro Detroit, according to the National Weather Service.
The city of Livonia moved a Memorial Day ceremony into the City Hall auditorium Saturday morning because of the rain.
The rain led Michigan State Police to cancel its Basketball Cop Program, which was scheduled in Highland Park, Saturday. State Police say the event will be rescheduled.
The program was set up to connect troopers and local police with kids and families by playing one-on-one games as well as eating some food and listening to music and dancing.
The next event is scheduled for June 17th in Melvindale.
By mid-week next week, temperatures are expected to climb back to the 80's.
