Some Metro Detroit Meijer stores selling Lions NFC championship merchandise despite not clinching division – yet
EAST LANSING (WWJ) - No, you're not peering into a crystal ball if you happen to run across Detroit Lions division championship merchandise at your local Meijer store on Friday.
Even though they haven't officially clinched the title yet.
Shoppers at several Meijer locations in the state are doing a double-take after the company put out NFC championship t-shirts with the likes of Jared Goff, Aiden Hutchinson and Amon-Ra St. Brown on the front.
Fans called into WWJ sister-station, 97.1 the Ticket, saying they've seen the merchandise at stores in East Lansing and around the Metro Detroit area -- but they're not too keen on buying them just yet.
Brandon from Woodhaven called into the Stoney and Jansen Show, stating the company responded to fans wondering why the items were already on the shelf.
"So somebody messaged Meijer cooperate, and they're like 'its only one game, just believe!' and they're like 'you must've never watched a Lions game before,'" he said.
When asked if he picked up a shirt for Christmas, Brandon stated: "I can't do that yet until the job's done."
Hype for the Lions has been immense as they sit on the cusp of clinching the NFC North for the first time in 30 years -- if they win against the Minnesota Vikings.
The last time the Lions won a division title was in 1993. They can also secure their spot in the playoffs this weekend if either the Rams or the Seahawks lose their games.
Detroit will travel to U.S. Bank Stadium, where the Vikings have won five straight home games against the Lions. The two teams play again in the Motor City on the final weekend of the regular season.
Detroit Lions (10-4) at Minnesota (7-7) kick off on Sunday, December 24 at 1 p.m. EST on FOX. The game can also be heard on 97.1 the Ticket.
