TAYLOR (WWJ) – Metro Detroit’s most infamous cop car is on the auction block.
The red 2014 Dodge Charger that often sat in the Gardner-White parking lot on Telegraph Road just off I-94 is retiring from the Taylor Police Department, and Metro Detroiters have a chance to scoop it up.
The car became infamous for nabbing speeders along Telegraph Road after exiting the freeway, where the speed limit drops.
The Charger handed out what Taylor Police Chief John Blair describes as “a quite substantial” amount of tickets over the years.
“I’m not sure we can count that high,” Blair told WWJ’s Erin Vee.
While he’s not sure exactly how many speeding tickets were doled out by the “Gardner-White Charger,” he says the muscle car was also involved in a number of police chases and major arrests.
But now its time on the force has come to an end, and it’s being sold at auction.

“You have to put things out to pasture when they get older, so it was time to retire the old lady and get her out and send her off to somebody else who wanted to add her to their collection,” Blair said.
The car is one of several old police vehicles available for purchase through the department’s website. Blair says all funds from the auction must be returned to department, as vehicles are bought via federal forfeiture funds.
Blair says the auction began on April 8 and will run through April 22, though the website notes the auction may be extended.
On Tuesday night, the highest bid for the infamous car sat at more than $11,000. The listing says more than two dozen people have bid on the car. It’s listed in “fair condition,” with just under 65,000 miles.
Blair’s not exactly sure what will happen with the vehicle, though he’s heard rumors that a bar owner may buy it.
“I wouldn’t be at all surprised if you didn’t see that in a bar parking lot with a sledgehammer right next to it. Nothing’s gonna surprise me,” he said.
Rumors say that Metro Detroiters could pay to take a whack at the infamous car, with proceeds going to charity.
