(WWJ) A 59-year-old Genesee County man will serve at least 50 years in prison after he was convicted of sexually assaulting an underage girl multiple times, in multiple locations.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced John Digiacomo, of Clio, was sentenced in Tuscola County on Monday for crimes that took place in Tuscola, Genesee and Saginaw Counties between 2014 and 2015.
In the summer of 2014, investigators said the teenage victim moved in with her aunt. Digiacomo, a tow truck driver, was her aunt’s neighbor.
According to court records, Digiacomo gave his teenage victim drugs and threatened to kill her and her family when she tried to stop him from raping her, or tried to stay away from him.
In Tuscola County, Digiacomo was sentenced to:
Count 1: Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC) 1st degree, 18.75-60 years served consecutive with; Count 2: CSC 1st Degree - 18.75-60 years served consecutively with Count 1; Count 3: CSC 2nd Degree, 10-15 years served consecutively with Counts 1 and 2; Counts 4 and 5: CSC 3rd Degree, 10-15 years served concurrently; Count 6: CSC 4th Degree, 16 months-2 years served concurrently; and, Counts 7-9: 3 counts of felony firearm, 2 years served consecutive to counts 1,2, and 3 (with credit for approximately 505 days).
“Today’s sentencing serves as a reminder that we remain committed to securing justice for survivors” Nessel said, in a statement. “Sexual assaults are serious offenses, and my office will not shy away from holding these predators accountable for their actions.”
But this is not the end of legal proceedings for Digiacomo.
A trial date has not yet been set for additional charges he faces in Genesee County, including additional counts of first, second, third and fourth degree criminal sexual conduct, as well as one count of felony assault with a dangerous weapon, and felony firearm charge.
The case is being prosecuted by the Attorney General Cold Case Sexual Assault Project, which is funded by a U.S. Department of Justice grant awarded by the Office of Violence Against Women.
