(WWJ) – A young moose in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is safe and sound after DNR conservation officers helped rescue it over the weekend.

DNR conservation officers and a wildlife biologist were called out to a young bull moose in need of assistance in Marquette County over the weekend.

The young moose was near a road and struggling to get around large amounts of snow.

They were able to help guide the moose down a two-track and away from the heavy snow until it was able to go off on its own, DNR officials said in a Facebook post.

“The moose was tired, but in overall good condition,” DNR officials said. “Spring will hit the U.P. soon, young moose!”

DNR officials remind the public to not approach or touch a moose.

“Our staff are very experienced and understand the risk when approaching these animals,” officials said.

The latest numbers from the DNR estimate there are more than 300 moose living in the western U.P.
