(WWJ) -- Michigan's 2022 primary election has wrapped up and the results are in...
Republican Tudor Dixon took the big win in the Republican gubernatorial race Tuesday night, beating out her four male competitors by winning 40.6% of the votes. Dixon is now in the running to be Michigan's next governor, facing incumbent Gretchen Whitmer in the fall.
There were also several big wins across the districts for U.S. House members.
The third time is a charm for Republican John James who won a House seat in the 10th district. James ended up winning with 87% of the vote, defeating Tony Marcinkewciz who had 13%.
After Michigan lost a Congressional seat following the 2020 Census, the state’s 11th District turned into a race between two incumbents. Haley Stevens, of Waterford Township, has won that race. The 39-year-old beat out fellow Democratic Congressman Andy Levin of Bloomfield Hills.
U.S Rep. Rashida Tlaib has secured the Democratic nomination for the newly drawn 12th Congressional District on Wednesday, defeating three challengers. Tlaib was up against Lathrup Village Mayor Kelly Garrett, former state Rep. Shanelle Jackson and Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey -- who had strong name recognition in the city.
State Rep. Shri Thanedar was able to grab the open seat in the 13th district, which represents most of Detroit. Thanedar was leading with 28%, followed by state Sen. Adam Hollier with 24% and Focus: HOPE CEO and attorney Portia Roberson with 17%, with 68% of votes counted. The Associated Press had not called the race as of 9 a.m.
Rep. Peter Meijer, who cast one of the 10 Republican votes to impeach Donald Trump over it, has lost his reelection bid. Meijer was defeated in the primary by Trump-endorsed John Gibbs, a businessman and missionary who served in the Trump administration in Housing and Urban Development.
