(WWJ) -- A man from Southeastern Michigan is facing murder charges in the death of a woman whose body was found in a river.

Michigan State Police say 30-year-old Jessica Marie Fox of Adrian was reported missing on March 22, one day after family members last saw her in Tecumseh, Mich.

Authorities say after an extensive search by MSP and other area law enforcement agencies that lasted more than two, a body was recovered from the River Raisin in Raisin Township on April 8.

Two days later, an autopsy performed by the Lenawee County Medical Examiner positively identified the body as Fox and determined the cause of death was strangulation, and the death was ruled a homicide.

Authorities investigated the murder for more than two months before identifying a person of interest. On June 24, authorities arrested 33-year-old Christopher George Maurer of Adrian for Fox's murder.

Police have not said whether Fox knew Maurer and have not released any details about a possible motive in the case.
