ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. (WWJ) – A Michigan man is reportedly on life support after he was pulled from the water while on spring break in Florida.
He and a woman he was with began struggling in the water near St. Augustine Beach around 1:30 p.m. Thursday and yelled for help, according to a report from WJXT in Jacksonville. St. Augustine Beach is about 50 miles south of Jacksonville along the Atlantic coast.
The woman was eventually able to make it back to shore with the help of surf instructors who were alerted by two kids on the beach, according to the report.
The man, meanwhile, was apparently swept away by the strong current.
Witnesses said the man was pulled from the water about an hour later nearly a mile south near a pier, according to the report.
He was taken to a hospital and was reportedly placed on life support.
While witnesses told WJXT the man and woman were from Michigan, it was not immediately clear where in the state.
