(WWJ) -- It’s National Beer Day and there’s no better place to enjoy a good brew than Michigan!
That’s according to a new study from GreatLakesState.com, which named the Mitten the No. 1 state for beer lovers across the entire country.
To determine who’s best when it comes to beer, the website pulled data from three key metrics, including: the average rating of beers brewed in the state, the amount of breweries per capita (per 100,000 residents) the average price of a 24-pack in each state.
Michigan didn’t win the day in any of those three categories individually, but the state did rank high enough each time to average number one overall.
Though Stroh’s started it all in Detroit back in 1850, the fact that the company sold to Miller in 1999 means that Frankenmuth Brewery is currently the “oldest continually brewing brewery” in the state, operating since 1862.
Other popular Michigan breweries name-checked in the survey included Bell’s in Kalamazoo, Dark Horse in Marshall, Founders in Grand Rapids, Kuhnhenn in Warren, Transient Artisan in Bridgman, Schramm’s Mead in Ferndale, Perrin in Comstock Park, and Detroit Beer Company in Downtown Detroit, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
Along with Michigan, the other states that ranked highest for beer lovers included Iowa, Illinois, Colorado and Missouri.
