(WWJ) – COVID-19 cases in Michigan are continuing to drop, as state health officials on Monday reported just under 10,000 new cases over the past three days.

There were 9,898 new cases reported Monday for an average of about 3,300 daily cases – the lowest daily case count since Nov. 10 – and 38 new virus-related deaths, none of which came from a review of vital records.

Last week Michigan surpassed 2 million confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, but the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported last Friday the state’s number of hospitalizations had dropped below 3,000 for the first time since mid-November.

On Monday, there were under 2,700 hospitalizations, the lowest since the first week of November.

Health officials have also said the state's case positivity rate continues to drop. Last week officials said these downward trends may mean the Omicron variant -- which surged across Michigan in the last couple of months -- could be near or at its peak infection rate.
