(WWJ) – The latest surge of COVID-19 continues in Michigan as state health officials on Wednesday reported more than 28,000 new positive cases of the virus over the past two days.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said there was an average of 14,229 cases per day since Monday’s update.

MDHHS also reported 350 new deaths have been recorded, most of which were found during a review of vital records. That brings Michigan’s death toll to more than 28,000 since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

There have been more than 1.7 million positive cases in the state during that same time frame.
