1 killed in shooting at Trims Unlimited in Almont, suspect hospitalized after being shot by Lapeer County deputy

ALMONT (WWJ) -- One person is dead, and another is hospitalized, after a pair of related shootings in Lapeer County, Wednesday morning.

Michigan State Police asked the public to avoid the area of Sutton Road, between the communities of Metamora and Almont, as they conducted their investigation.

What we know so far: There was a shooting early Wednesday at Trims Unlimited. located along M-53 in Almont.

Police said a suspect walked into the business and shot an employee, before fleeing the scene.

The suspect ran roughly 10 miles west, and was eventually shot by a Lapeer County Sheriff's deputy in a rural area.

He was then arrested, and taken to a local hospital

Later in the afternoon, Almont Police said the suspect was alive and in custody at the hospital.

Michigan State Police are taking the lead in he deputy-involved shooting, while Almont Police are investigating the shooting at Trims.

It's not clear exactly what led up to the Trims' shooting, as the investigation continues.

Police said there is no threat to the public. Some schools were put on lockdown for a time after the initial shooting, but all lockdowns have since been lifted.

MSP said its Special Investigation Section, the MSP Crime Lab-Bridgeport, and many other resources have been deployed to assist with this case.
