(WWJ) -- As Oxford Community Schools welcome in students for the new year along with other school districts across the state, a bipartisan task force in the Michigan House of Representatives is looking at school safety.
Republican State Representative Pamela Hornberger, who is a former teacher and a member on the task force, said they will be looking at everything from guns to mental health counseling.

But Hornberger said there won't be any jumping to conclusions on topics.
"It's not good to jump to immediate conclusions and say, 'Every building will do this or every school district will do that,'" said Hornberger.
Hornberger said it's best for the school districts to be in control of decisions on safety, and there was a school safety package last term that allowed schools to make such decisions.
"Some of the things that were put in place were used in Oxford and in other districts around the state in order to allow them to purchase things, like door solutions that might help barricade doors," said Hornberger. "We just want to take a look at how that ended up."
The task force hasn't met yet, but will soon.
