After Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was targeted in a kidnapping attempt and an angry mob of Trump supporters tried to topple the Capitol to overturn a democratic election, there's more news on the hate group front.
Turns out, Michigan has more than just about any other state.
A study by the Southern Poverty Law Center about hate and extremist groups identified 25 different hate groups in Michigan last year. Tennessee has 34 and Georgia 29. Texas tops the list with 54.
According to the SPLC, they have tracked 838 hate groups overall across the country and Michigan ranks among the top states in the country for the most extremist groups.
Below you'll find a list of the hate groups and the locations, from the SPLC. They've identified 25 separate groups and their headquarters, which spread from Wyandotte to Ferndale, Ann Arbor and Petoskey. See the "hate map" HERE.

“For three decades, we have attempted to sound the alarm about these groups, their growth and the dangers they pose,” Margaret Huang, president and chief executive officer of the SPLC, said in a news release. “It is clearer now than ever that our nation faces an increasingly dangerous threat from home-grown extremists ranging from anti-government militias to hate groups and white supremacists.”
According to the report, a national survey conducted in August, found 29 percent of respondents said they 'personally know' someone who believes that white people are the superior race. The poll also found that 51 percent of Americans thought the looting that occurred in several cities amid Black Lives Matter protests was a bigger problem than police violence against Black people.
