HOWELL (WWJ) -- The bad news on frigid Monday morning in Metro Detroit: Woody — Michigan's official prognosticating groundhog — is in agreement with Phil.

It was down to the wire at the Howell Nature Center, as the door to Woody the Woodchuck's tree stump opened and out she came.

As the snow was falling, and kids an adults gathered around, there was some tension as they waited: Would she stay out for 30 seconds and call an early Spring?

Nope.

With seconds to spare, Woody turned around and went back inside. That means she agrees with Punxsutawney Phil that there will be six more weeks of wintry weather.

While perhaps not as famous as her counterpart in western Pennsylvania, Michigan's own prognosticating rodent is also a seasoned pro.

According to her handlers, Woody is 28 years old, and has been making predictions since 1999.

Woody has a 65% accuracy rate, which is higher than that of Punxsutawney Phil.

Phil's overall accuracy rate is approximately 35% to 40%, based on data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
