MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) - A 13-year-old student is receiving medical care after she was hit by a vehicle while walking to school in Madison Heights on Thursday morning.
The Madison Heights Police Department said the teen girl, who is an eighth grader at John Page Middle School on 29615 Tawas, was struck while at the intersection of 12 Mile and Milton just after 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 14.
Responding officers found the teen in the road while the 31-year-old driver involved in the crash stopped at the scene.
The girl is currently receiving medical care and is listed in stable condition.
Police said the driver is cooperating with the investigation and was released at the scene. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor at this point in the investigation.
FOX 2 reported a tow truck at he scene had towed away a truck possibly involved in the crash earlier Thursday morning.
District officials said counselors and social workers will be available to Page Middle School students if they find themselves in need of help.
It is the second pedestrian crash reported in Madison Heights within 12 hours. On Wednesday evening, police said a 40-year-old man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash on Dequindre, south of Twelve Mile.
The driver in that crash was found and arrested in Warren.
Police are continuing to investigate both incidents.
