(WWJ) A little dog, pulled from the frigid waters of the Detroit River, has found his forever home in the “hands of the hero who saved him,” the River Rouge Animal Shelter said.

“Many of you will recall the story from back in February when a little fluffy and very matted poochie was stranded on the ice in the middle of the Detroit River,” a Facebook post from the River Rouge Animal Shelter said. “He dodged coyotes, eagles, coastguard ice breakers, frigid temps, and he even fell into the river and climbed back up on the ice.”

He was on the river for almost four days, according to the Shelter.

His amazing rescue involved Americans in several communities downriver and Canadians banning together on both sides of the river. He was spotted along the river in Ecorse near John Dingell Park, according to the Detroit News.

“On Saturday, the 4th day...a hero decided another day wasn’t going by. He risked his life to save HIS life. That dog is now named Miracle, because, it absolutely is a miracle he’s alive.”

His rescuer’s name is Jude, who lives in Windsor.

Miracle had frostbite on his nose and paws, and matted fur. Most of it had to be shaved off. However, he spent nearly the past two months in a sweater recovering and undergoing treatment surrounded by love and affection.

River Rouge fire chief, Roberto Cruz, “personally delivered” Miracle to Jude this week.

“Miracle will be living his life in our neighboring country Canada! What a lucky boy,” the Facebook statement read.

Countless families petitioned to adopt Miracle, accompanied by “beautiful stories” about why they wanted to give him a home; the Shelter said in their statement. The River Rouge Animal Shelter told WWJ they conducted an extensive application process, which included a home visit: “…It was decided that the man who saved Miracle was the very best fit for him.”

“We are all so grateful for this happily ever after ending to this AMAZING story….” the statement read. “Congrats Jude and family on the addition to your family! Happy life Miracle!”
