AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) -- An Auburn Hills woman and her baby who were reported missing two weeks ago have been found and are safe.
Police said 32-year old Amanda Prowell-Smith and her infant daughter, Eliza, were found at a laundromat in Warren over the weekend.
The 1 1/2-month old baby was taken to the hospital for an evaluation, police said, and the mother was taken into custody on outstanding arrest warrants.
Police had been looking for the two since Friday, Feb. 2, when Prowell-Smith allegedly assaulted a family member and took the baby, who was not born in a hospital. There was concern for the baby's well-being, as police said the mom had no money, no job, and no means of taking care of a child.
Detectives were able to determine from other family members that the mother had mental issues and the state had removed two other children from her home as a result.
The investigation is ongoing.
