(WWJ) - A missing teenager from Lapeer County has been found after authorities and volunteers led an extensive search since his disappearance nearly a week ago.
The Dryden Township Police Department made the announcement just before noon on Saturday saying 16-year-old Nathan John Baughman was located near the Michigan-Ohio border by deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office earlier in the morning.
"Nathan is in good health and is in the process of being reunited with his family," the police department said in a press release.
The teen, who is diagnosed with autism, was missing for nearly a week.
According to the MSP Third District, Baughman's parents told detectives he was last seen in their home in on Joy Rd. near Dryden Rd. in Dryden Township at 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 2.
"Since that time, an extensive search and use of resources were utilized in an attempt to safely locate Nathan," Dryden police added.
According to authorities, the teen had left a note on his bed saying that he was running away and discouraged anyone from trying to find him.
He had no prior history of running away, his parents had said, and there was no indication he intends to harm himself.
Baughman was believed to be traveling on a black Schwinn mountain bike with green lettering, although police did not know in what direction he was headed, or where he might be headed.
The Dryden Police Department said their search consisted of help from numerous law enforcement agencies and assistance from the public.
"We are proud of how everyone pulled together to assist in bringing Nathan home to his family," officials continued. "Once again, the Dryden Police Department extends a heart-felt 'thanks you' to everyone and all the agencies that assisted in this positive ending."
