Biological mom taken into custody after abducting children, barricading family inside Highland Park home
DETROIT (WWJ) - A barricaded situation that began when a biological mother abducted her two children out of a foster care home in Detroit is over after police made entry and took the woman into custody early Thursday morning.
The Detroit Police Department said the mother, who doesn't have custody of her 2-year-old and her 8-month-old, abducted the two children from a home in the 19300 block of Snowden Street in Detroit around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Police then tracked her down to a home in the 100 block of Stevens Street in Highland Park where she barricaded herself inside a four-family flat with her children.
Officers along with crisis negotiators made numerous attempts throughout the night to speak with the woman, who was reportedly undergoing a mental health episode.
Just after 1 a.m. on Thursday, police were able to successfully enter the home and took the woman into custody.
The children were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, police added.
