OXFORD TWP. (WWJ) -- Investigators believe speed may have been a factor in a fatal motorcycle crash in Oakland County Friday evening.
According to a news release issued by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday, an Oxford Township man died after a crash at around 6 p.m. on Nov. 10, on Lapeer Road, north of Metamora Road, in Oxford Township.
Sheriff's officials said 58-year-old Eric James Willis was driving his 2022 Harley Davidson FLTRXST southbound on Lapeer when he rear-ended a 2012 Ford Edge driven by a 23-year-old Rochester resident.
Willis was taken by paramedics to a hospital where he died of his injuries.
The driver and the passenger in the Edge were wearing their seatbelts, according to the OCSO, and were not injured.
At this time, officials said they don't know whether Willis was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The sheriff's office said speed may have been a factor in the incident, although an investigation by the County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is ongoing.
