DETROIT (WWJ) - A crash between an SUV and a motorcycle on a Detroit freeway Wednesday evening has left one man hospitalized with critical injuries-- and troopers say they're perplexed at the alleged at-fault driver's behavior afterward.
First Lt. Mike Shaw with the Michigan State Police said troopers were dispatched to the area of I-75 at 8 Mile Road after 911 callers reported a man laying in one of the northbound lanes just after 10 p.m. on May, 31.
When troopers got to the scene, the person had already been taken to the hospital.
While conducting their initial investigation, a witness told troopers that a black in color Dodge Durango was traveling on the freeway when it appeared to suddenly exit at 8 Mile and crashed into a Harley Davidson Triglide.
"The witness said they saw the suspect vehicle pulled over onto the right shoulder briefly and then take off," MSP added.
The victim, identified as a 73-year-old man from Lennon, Mich., sustained critical injuries in the crash and remains hospitalized while troopers search for the driver who struck him.
"I am still not sure how someone could hit another person, stop and look at them and then drive away,' Shaw stated. "If you are involved in a traffic crash, just stop. If you are the fleeing driver in this crash, just call us before we track you down."
The freeway was closed at 7 Mile while troopers were looking for evidence. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. No other details were released by MSP.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates.
