IMLAY CITY (WWJ) - A motorcyclist remains hospitalized with serious injuries on Tuesday, four days after he drove right into the back of a parked police cruiser at the scene of another crash in Lapeer County.
According to the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened just before 10 p.m. on Friday, May 26 on Cedar Street (M-53), just north of Newark Road in Imlay City as Imlay City police officers responded to another unrelated traffic incident.
Police had positioned a cruiser in a northbound lane with emergency lights on to help a disabled vehicle involved in the first crash. Officers were outside conducting an investigation when a motorcyclist came along in the same lane.
The motorcyclist, identified as a 27-year-old man from Pigeon, attempted to break his 2009 Harley Davidson, but slammed into the back passenger corner of the patrol car, deputies said.

The man and his motorcycle came to rest on the east side of the road. He was rushed to McLaren Lapeer Region by Lapeer County EMS with severe injuries.
He remains hospitalized in stable, but critical condition.
Lapeer County deputies are currently investigating the collision between the motorcyclist and the cruiser. At this time, authorities have not said if they believe excessive speed, alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact Detective Sgt. Jason Parks at either 810-656-1015 or jparks@lapeercounty.org.
