WARREN (WWJ) - One man was arrested Tuesday evening after Michigan State Police pulled him over for speeding in Warren, but found he was driving with multiple loaded weapons without a valid CPL.

MSP said troopers, along with a newly assigned cadet, initiated a traffic stop during the night of Jan. 31 when they stopped a driver speeding down 8 Mile and Dequindre.

The driver did not immediately stop when troopers activated their flashers and state police noticed the individual placed what appeared to be a rifle in the backseat.

The driver then pulled over for police. As troopers approached the vehicle, they noticed a loaded HP MP5 rifle across the backseat, MSP added.

The driver, identified as a 21-year-old man from Sterling Heights, told officers he had the rifle on his lap while he was driving.

"During a search of the vehicle a loaded 9mm FN pistol was found underneath the driver seat and a 30 round drum magazine for the rifle in the glove compartment," MSP said of the incident.

Authorities said the man did not have a valid CPL and what the driver intended to do with the weapons is unclear.

The man was arrested and both firearms were seized by troopers. The man is currently at the Macomb County Jail as the case pends a prosecutor's review.
