LAWRENCE, Mich. (WWJ) -- A Michigan State Police trooper is hospitalized after his SUV was struck by a semi in Van Buren County.
MSP said the trooper was investigating another crash along eastbound I-94 near Lawrence, west of Kalamazoo, when his Chevy Tahoe was hit by the truck.

The trooper had to be cut out of his vehicle by emergency responders, but he was alert and conscious at the time.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life threatening, police said.
The semi driver suffered only minor injuries.
Photos from the scene show extensive damage to the squad car, and the truck on its side off the side of the freeway.

Police said the freeway would remain closed until troopers completed their investigations into both crashes, and the debris is cleared from the roadway.
