MT. CLEMENS (WWJ) -- The wet and stormy weather hitting Metro Detroit today has led to the cancellation of the Mt. Clemens Fireworks this weekend.

City leaders along with members of the Downtown Development Authority made the decision after talking with the Zambelli fireworks crews.

No new date has been announced at this time.

"The fireworks have been cancelled for tonight and tomorrow due to weather conditions," City Manager Donald E Johnson said. "They will be rescheduled for a yet to be determined later date."

On Friday and Saturday, and possibly even into next week, metro Detroit is expected to see periods of heavy rain with some thunderstorm activity.

Winds at times could reach a damaging 60 miles per hour, and localized flooding is also possible.
