MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) -- A 37-year-old Mount Clemens man could spend the rest of his life in prison if he's convicted in the attempted murder of an acquaintance.
According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, Jovaughn Harrington ran into the victim at a gas station on Tuesday, Feb. 27. They'd met before, through mutual friends, and the two agreed to get together to hang out later that night.
When they met up at around 10:30 p.m., in the area of Jones Street and Park streets in Mount Clemens, it's alleged that Harrington tried to rob the woman.
When she resisted, and they struggled over the woman's handbag, Harrington stabbed the woman at least seven times.
Harrington fled the scene, but was later found and arrested.
The victim survived, and was last reported in stable condition.
Harrington was charged with Assault with Intent to Murder (life felony), and Armed Robbery (life felony). He is also being charged as a habitual fourth offender.
Harrington was arraigned in Clinton Twp. District Court where bond was set at $150,000 cash/surety, no 10%. If released, he was ordered to wear a steel cuff tether, have no contact with the victim, not possess weapons or ammunition, and undergo alcohol and drug testing.
"We are tasked with seeking justice for those who have been victimized by violent crimes," said Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido, in a statement. We will tirelessly pursue accountability to ensure that victims receive the justice they deserve and that our communities remain safe from such senseless acts of violence."
Harrington will be back in court for a probable cause conference scheduled for Monday, March 11.
