MT CLEMENS (WWJ) A young Mount Clemens woman-- who pled guilty to shooting her father during an argument-- will not see the inside of a jail cell so long as she meets certain conditions.
On Wednesday; a judge sentenced Cheyenne Randolph, 21, to 24-months of probation on charges of Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm and Felony Firearm.
Prosecutors said Randolph got into argument with her 66-year-old biological father at their apartment on Hubbard Street (200 block) in Mount Clemens on February 23.
According to prosecutors, Randolph shot at her father four times, striking him twice. He was treated at the hospital and survived his injuries.
In addition to the probation; Randolph will be prohibited from contacting the victim, not allowed to consume drugs or alcohol, and must keep a job. The Macomb County Circuit Court judge also ordered her to obtain her GED, as well as undergoing a cognitive restructuring program and counseling. Randolph, who was 20 when the crime occurred, was assigned Holmes Youthful Training Status (HYTA).
If she is unable to meet the conditions, she may be resentenced and lose her HYTA. If she completes her probation, her conviction will not be on record.
"I do not take lightly the circumstances that brought her here, but my office believes in rehabilitation." Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said. "Her sentencing under HYTA is a privilege-- one that she now has the responsibility to honor. I certainly hope she completes the terms of her probation."
