MT PLEASANT, MICH. (WWJ) A man is in custody, accused of trying to stab his parents to death in Mount Pleasant.
The Isabella County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a home on Winn near River on a report that the suspect, 24, had stabbed his parents on Saturday (5/25) around 4:00 a.m. When deputies arrived, they found the suspect had fled the scene in a car.
The investigation revealed the parents, 42 and 43, were sleeping when the suspect started stabbing them, the sheriff's office said.
"The two woke up and were able to defend themselves while the suspect continued to try and attack them," a press release from the sheriff's office said.
Two minor children were in the house at the time. They were not injured, according to the sheriff's office.
As deputies continued to investigate; they learned that the suspect was traveling south on US-127 near St. John's. Deputies called in Gratiot and Clinton Counties to help locate the car.
Within an hour, Clinton County deputies made a traffic stop on the highway and took the suspect into custody.
The parents' injuries are "non-life-threatening," according to the sheriff's office.
No details have been released about a potential motive.
The suspect is in Isabella County Jail.
