(WWJ) — An investigation is ongoing after a school bus carrying 30 elementary school students left the road and rolled over in rural Washtenaw County late Thursday afternoon.
The rollover crash happened around 4:15 p.m. near Bunton and Talladay Roads in Augusta Township, just west of Belleville and about 15 miles southeast of Ann Arbor.
Michigan State Police officials say the driver was bringing students from Lincoln Consolidated Schools home following the school day. Just after making a stop to drop off a student, the bus began heading east when it began to slide on the ice.
The driver lost control of the bus and the bus slid off the north side of the road and overturned, MSP officials said.
Officials say 30 children were evacuated from the bus. All the children were evaluated by Augusta Township Fire Department and Huron Valley Ambulances for injuries. All children were cleared and turned over to guardians on scene, according to MSP.
Minor injuries were reported, however no children were transported to the hospital
The bus driver was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for what officials said were also minor injuries.
Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.
