SWARTZ CREEK (WWJ) – The search is on for the driver of an SUV that drove through a group of UAW workers picketing at GM’s Flint Processing Center.
The incident, which is being investigated as a hit-and-run, happened around 4 p.m. at the facility on West Bristol Road in Swartz Creek, just southwest of Flint, according to a report from MLive.
Matt Bade, the chief of police for the Metro Police Authority of Genesee County, said about five people sustained minor injuries in the incident, according to the report.
The Flint Processing Plant was one of nearly 40 locations added to the UAW’s strike last Friday. Picketing workers were reportedly blocking an exit to the processing center when the suspect drove through the crowd.
The driver fled the scene and has not been located.
Authorities believe the vehicle involved was a dark-colored Chevy HHR or Chrysler PT Cruiser.
GM officials said in a statement the company is “committed to the health and safety of all employees. Plant leadership is working closely with local authorities to investigate and understand what happened,” according to a report from The Detroit News.
UAW officials did not immediately comment on the incident.
