Nearly 2 million Ford Explorers recalled to fix issue that can cause trim pieces to fly off windshield
(WWJ) — Ford is recalling nearly two million Explorer SUVs due to an issue that can cause trim near the windshield to come loose.
The recall, which covers 2011-2019 model year Explorers, comes after more than 14,000 warranty claims, according to WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert. No injuries have been reported as a result of the issue.
Gilbert reports the issue is with a trim piece near the windshield that can come loose or detach, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford officials say owners of the Explorers may hear a rattling sound or excessive wind noise while driving.
Dealers will inspect the exterior trim and replace as needed, according to Gilbert. Owners are encouraged to get in contact with their dealers for an inspection.
Owners are expected to receive notification from Ford in March, according to a report from the Associated Press.
