(WWJ) Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is spearheading a nationwide crackdown on annoying robocalls
As part of the initiative called "Operation Robocall Roundup," Nessel and 50 bipartisan attorneys general are sending warning letters to 37 voice providers demanding that they act now to stop illegal robocalls being routed through their networks.
Nessel said the companies are ignoring federal regulations which allows the robocalls and scammers to filter through downstream providers, and eventually to your phone.
The FCC is also banning seven of those providers from its robocall database, which means other providers will not be allowed to route calls through their networks.
Nessel hopes this serves as a warning to other voice providers.
"Operation Robocall Roundup will help ensure voice service providers do their part to stop illegal robocalls," Nessel said. "I look forward to continuing to work with the Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force to protect people from these persistent and intrusive calls."
