IONIA COUNTY (WWJ) - If you've bought a lotto ticket in the Grand Rapids-Kentwood metropolitan area, you're going to want to check the numbers because you could be Michigan's newest Millionaire.
The Michigan Lottery said a winning ticket worth $1 million was sold at Purk's Convenience Store in Ionia, nestled north of the halfway point between Lansing and Grand Rapids.
Although no one took home the big billion dollar jackpot prize, the Ionia ticket match all the white balls for a cool $1 million. The winning Powerball numbers drawn on Monday night were: 12, 26, 27, 43, 47 and red Powerball 5.
On Saturday, a lucky player in Michigan matched the five white balls to win a $1 million Powerball prize. The winning ticket was bought at the 7-Eleven, located at 34951 Garfield Road in Fraser.
The Powerball jackpot soared to $1.3 billion, with a cash value of $551.7 million, after no one won Monday's drawing. It is now the third largest prize in game history.
The Powerball jackpot was last won on July 19 after the winning ticket holder in California came forward to claim the $1.08 billion prize.
Since then, there have been 31 consecutive drawings with no grand prize winner.
Players have plenty of time to purchase tickets for the drawing on Wednesday. Tickets can be purchase at Lottery retailers throughout the state. Tickets can also be purchased online at MichiganLottery.com.
Powerball drawings take place at 10:59 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday and may be watched live online at: http://www.powerball.com. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1, the Michigan Lottery added.
Here's a funny little statistic about the billion dollar Powerball prize. The odds of winning it are 294 million to 1, while Forbes magazine calculates the chances of becoming a self-made billionaire at only 1 in 409,000.
