ROCHESTER (WWJ) -- A work stoppage from Oakland University professors is moving into its second day.
Contract talks between the Oakland University Chapter of the American Association of University Professors and university negotiators went into the early hours of Friday morning, but an agreement could not be reached.
”After 16 and a half hours, we have reached the end of this session with no new contract agreement,” the professors' union posted at 2:30 a.m.
The update from the union says several crucial economic issues remain and the two sides are expected to be back at the bargaining table at 10 a.m. this morning.
Meanwhile, professors are set to stay out of classrooms and walk picket lines while the work stoppage is in effect.
Officials from Oakland University say students should go to class as scheduled and wait at least 15 minutes to determine whether their instructor will be teaching.
Meanwhile, university operations, support services, and extracurricular activities will proceed as normal.
The union filed an unfair labor practice charge regarding the Oakland's failure to bargain the impact of the COVID vaccine mandate on union members.
In a statement, Oakland University said it regrets that this faculty union strike is taking place and hopes to resolve remaining contract issues as soon as possible with minimal disruption to classes.
