(WWJ) — A Northern Michigan man has died after speeding off the road Sunday evening in Iosco County.

Michigan State Police officials say a trooper was on a traffic stop around 6:50 p.m. on M-55 in Grant Township — about 30 miles east of West Branch — when a Jeep went speeding by.

The driver of a 2005 Jeep was headed east on M-55 and "traveling at a very high rate of speed" and nearly hit the trooper's patrol car, according to MSP.

The driver then lost control and rolled several times into a ditch.

Officials say a 68-year-old man from Glennie, Mich., was the only person in the Jeep. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

Authorities have not released any more information about the crash.
